What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, and provide analytical information to site owners.
We also use similar technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage for authentication tokens and consent preferences.
Cookies we set
We use four categories of cookies. You can manage non-essential categories via the consent banner on this site.
Strictly necessary (always active)
These cookies are required for the Service to function. You cannot opt out of them.
- speax_session — HTTP-only session cookie used to authenticate you. Expires when you close the browser or after 7 days of inactivity.
- speax_refresh — HTTP-only refresh token used to renew your session without re-logging in. 7-day expiry, single-use, rotated on each refresh.
- cookie_consent_v1 — localStorage entry storing your cookie preference choices. Not transmitted to the server.
- __stripe_sid / __stripe_mid — Set by Stripe on checkout pages for fraud prevention. Strictly necessary for payment processing.
Functional (optional, requires consent)
Help the site remember choices you have made.
- Language and UI preferences stored in localStorage.
Analytics (optional, requires consent)
Help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. We use privacy-respecting analytics tools. No data is sold or used for advertising.
- We may use Plausible Analytics (EU-hosted, cookieless by default) or a self-hosted analytics solution. If a cookie-based solution is used, it will be listed here and require consent.
Marketing (optional, requires consent)
We do not currently use advertising or marketing cookies. If we introduce them in the future, we will update this policy and require fresh consent.
Third-party cookies
The following third parties may set cookies on our pages:
- Stripe — payment processing. Cookies set on checkout pages only. Strictly necessary for payment security. Stripe Cookie Policy
We do not embed social media tracking pixels or advertising networks.
Managing your preferences
When you first visit the site, a consent banner allows you to:
- Accept all — enables all cookie categories.
- Reject non-essential — only strictly necessary cookies are enabled.
- Customize — granularly toggle each optional category.
Your choice is stored in localStorage under the key "cookie_consent_v1". To change your preferences at any time, clear this key (via browser developer tools) or use the re-open button we provide in the site footer.
You can also manage cookies via your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in.
